While many people consider the area to be a tourist destination filled with luxury and vacation homes, it's so much more! Many agree that the quality of life in Park City is second to none. Scroll below to get the details about what makes Park City special.

1. Park City: Past & Present

Park City, which is located in the stunning Wasatch Mountains, may most notably be recognized as the location of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, but it was famous long before that. Prior to hosting the Olympics, Park City was known as a silver mining town with a colorful and spirited past. The city was discovered in 1868 by soldiers stationed in Salt Lake City. A few years later in 1870, the Transcontinental Railroad brought to town many hopeful minors on the search for vast amounts of silver. Since then, Park City has become home to a range of people with different lifestyles. With a population of 8,064, it's the 4,653rd largest city in the United States.

So, what makes people want to live in Park City, Utah? That's easy! The Park City community offers residents many of the amenities and privileges of living on a resort without sacrificing the conveniences that only a major metropolis can provide. At 7,500 feet above sea level, this charming community is just a short 35-mile drive from the Salt Lake International Airport. Its location provides convenient accessibility that very few resorts offer. The easy-going lifestyle of resort living combined with Park City's accessibility appeals to many, making it a popular place to live.

Highlights of living in Park City include:

  • Variety of recreational activities
  • Wide range of shopping, dining, and entertainment options
  • Nearby national parks and resorts
  • Premier Schools in the South Summit District
  • Community-oriented population
  • Accessible Public Transportation

There are ample business opportunities for Park City residents, as well. The city is one of three that make up the Silicon Slopes "triangle," which is known as an "emerging tech powerhouse." In fact, many big-name tech companies have already set up shop in the area, including Microsoft, Adobe, Oracle, and eBay. An influx of well-known tech companies in the Park City area means more opportunities for career advancement.

2. Park City is Different than the Rest of Utah

enjoying the bar scene with friends

Don't get us wrong, Utah as a whole is great. That being said, Park City has something that other Utah cities don't: a diverse range of restaurants and nightlife! Park City has a thriving bar scene sure to suit just about anyone's tastes. According to Park City Magazine, "Whatever you’re in the mood for, whether that may be sipping wine or whiskey at a happening outdoor après spot or throwing darts and shooting pool in a family-friendly pub, this intimate mountain town has you covered." With so many options, you may not know where to start. Luckily, the magazine shares a list of local favorites categorized by things like "Adult Conversation," "Shake Your Groove Thing," and "High-brow Post-Slope Pit Stops." Check it out here.

Though there's no shortage of delicious eateries in Park City, it's safe to say the Hibbs Homes team has a few favorites. Some of our top picks for restaurants include:

Yuki Yama Sushi - One of the best restaurants in Park City, Yuki Yama Sushi offers a tasty variety of the traditional and the new. We recommend trying the pork ramen and the sushi, which is served as fresh and as good as in any place in the country. There are always a lot of diners, so it is best to make a reservation. The service is top-notch, and the ambiance is fantastic.

Sammy’s Bistro – Sammy’s Bistro serves the best Mahi tacos and offers a nice selection of beer. The food is high-quality and cooked to perfection and we're big fans of the fine steak sandwiches and chicken wings. There are also vegan and gluten-free options, which is awesome. Sammy's is so popular that there is always a long line, so be prepared to wait during peak hours!

El Chubasco – This is easily one of the best casual Mexican places in Park City! The tacos, tamales, and burritos are absolutely amazing. El Chubasco has a lively atmosphere. Not only is the food delicious, but they also serve beer and have an excellent salsa bar. It is located in a strip mall, and there is always a wait for tables.

3. Park City is More Than Ski Resorts

hiking and taking in the view of the water and mountains

Skiing is likely one of the first things to come to mind when talking about fun things to do in Park City but it's just the start. Winter is a wonderful time to enjoy the mountain slopes. However, the fun doesn't stop there. There are plenty of activities to enjoy year-round in Park City! Visit Park City declares that "Your options for things to do in Park City are limitless, no matter your age. Try your hand at fly-fishing, soar above the mountains in a hot air balloon, explore the mountain on foot, a bike, or horseback, test your balance with stand up paddleboard yoga, or tackle one of our golf courses." With over 150 miles of public trails, Park City is an ideal place to live for those who love biking and hiking activities.
