Prior to the becoming famous during as the 2002 Olympic Winter Games venue, Park City was famous for being a silver mining town and has a colorful past. Soldiers stationed in Salt Lake City traversed the mountain from Big Cottonwood Canyon to find silver and, in the process, discovered Park City in 1868.
