St Louis's Best Neighborhoods for Trick or Treating

If you live in a neighborhood with little to no trick-or-treating, you may want to seek a new destination for your family to join in the festivities. But where do you go? While we don't have an inside track on which homes hand out the full-sized candy bars, there are a few hot spots where you can find fun events, sweet treats & creative decor that will enliven even the spookiest spirits.

We polled social media, our past clients & our team to gather a quick list of a few fantastic haunts for Halloween in St Louis.

Lafayette Square

There's nothing like a neighborhood filled with historic Victorian homes to put a little spook in your step. And Lafayette Square is one of the places where you can count on some good old-fashioned door to door candy collecting. Most of the younger goblins will start around 5pm, with the last trick or treaters filing through around 8pm.

Fun Fact Lafayette Square's historic homes are a source of inspiration for craftsmanship and detailing that clients love to bring into their custom home's designs.

New Town St Charles

If there is one St.Louis-area neighborhood that truly transforms for Halloween look no further than the homes in St Charles, MO's New Town area. Residents go all out with decorations that rival the most bedecked Christmas displays. Think cobweb covered bridges, life-sized goblins around every corner, and more jack o'lanterns than you can shake a pumpkin spiced latte at. The festive atmosphere draws families from across the metro-area so plan in advance for parking if you aren't a resident!

Central West End Neighborhood Halloween

The Saturday before Halloween, the neighborhood comes alive with ghosts, goblins & goodies for their Legendary CWE Halloween. Festivities start with a family-friendly celebration during the day including day time trick or treating, costume parades for kids & furry friends and live music.

As the sun starts to set, Maryland Plaza fills with some of the most outrageous costumes for the adult's only party and contest.

Walkable Neighborhoods for Trick or Treating

Often the family-friendly towns that have walkable clusters of homes make the top of the destination lists. Especially in neighborhoods like:
  • Webster Groves: The Old Orchard Business District hosts Saturday before Halloween trick or treating!
  • Kirkwood:The Annual Halloween Walk in Downtown is a community favorite, too!
  • Eureka: Several neighborhoods offer walkable streets for candy collecting and they also host a Scarecrow Decorating Festival throughout October.

Other clusters of clusters of neighborhoods within South and West County also get a lot of interest since families can visit a few within walking distance. Communities along Grant's Trail see streams of children along the 8-mile span. Park near Grant's Farm for quick access to the trail and all of the communities it connects.

Celebrating Community & Design

One of the reasons we love building custom homes in St Louis is the strong sense of neighborhood connection that shows up - and not just during the holidays. Whether you're walking the tree-lined streets of Webster Groves or admiring the Victorian porches in Lafayette Square, each community tells it's own story and those stories draw so many to want to build their one-of-a-kind, St Louis dream home there.

From cozy front porches for greeting neighbors to welcoming walkways and community events - these little details are what makes a house a home and where memories take shape year after year.

Happy Haunting, Trick or Treaters!
